Hyde Park Café
City of Sydney
Café, Hospitality, Heritage
CHROFI successfully secured a shortlisting in the open tender for the redevelopment of the Hyde Park Café, which currently adjoins the entrance to the historic Museum Station in Sydney.
The design is conceptually conceived of as a plaster cast of Museum Station. It replicates the detail and tectonic expression of the original but foregoes the materiality, instead favouring a clean and simple concrete expression with bronze detailing. The positioning of the new café forms a covered courtyard space between the new café and the existing station, at once encapsulating the access to the station elevator as well as creating a quiet outdoor area for café patrons. Inside, pristine vaults echo the profile of the train tunnels below.

Indicative Elevation - Shading Structures.
The accompanying shading structures maintain the vaulted character established by the café but are realised in fine, lace-like bronze that creates dappled shadows.
