The Australian Asian Artists Association was formed in 2000 as a national forum committed to the promotion of contemporary Australian Asian art and culture.

4A’s program focuses on contemporary art practice. Presenting a range of media such as video, installation, sculpture and painting. It has established links within the contemporary Asian art community both locally and internationally. Through its exhibition program and activities 4A has worked with some key contemporary artists in the region as supporting the work of artists around Australia. Importantly 4A also has commitment to artists at the beginning of their careers providing them with freedom to take risks and present innovative and engaging projects.

4A has a unique position within Australia’s contemporary art world with a distinctive focus on “living Asian cultures”, the changing global context and the engagement of new generations of Asian Australians with contemporary art. Through its diverse activities 4A “creates experiences” for artists in experimentation, students seeking careers in the arts in “learning by doing”, members in active participation and for the public through interactive opportunities. 4A’s activities are internationally recognised as having developed an innovative approach to Australia’s diversity. 4A is ideally positioned to participate in global discussion on contemporary art and culture.
